A London police K9 on only his third shift helped officers apprehend two alleged rim thieves.

Officers were called to Fanshawe Park Road East around 1:10 a.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity.

Police allege two males were attempting to remove rims from a semi-trailer, and when approached they fled the scene.

One suspect fled on foot, while the other hopped in a vehicle.

Officers discovered the vehicle abandoned a few blocks away. Police Service Dog Wilco and his handler Const. Marty Lessick soon discovered  the driver hiding under a truck in the area.

Lessick and Wilco then attended the area where the suspect who fled on foot was last seen. After running through a yard and jumping a fence Wilco discovered the suspect hiding between a vehicle and a home.

Both suspects were arrested within an hour of a citizen reporting suspicious activity.

A 55-year-old London man and a 46-year-old Sarnia man have been charged with five criminal offences each.

Wilco was given his badge in a ceremony and London police headquarters last Thursday,
