A foot patrol conducted by Oxford OPP in Ingersoll has resulted in a number of distracted driving charges.

OPP say over the last few weeks, officers have observed high numbers of people driving and using cell phones.

The foot patrol last week in the main core of Ingersoll resulted in the following charges:

  • Drive hand-held communication device (17 charges) - fine of $490
  • Disobey sign (7 charges) – fine of $110

With a long weekend upon us and many people on the roads, OPP would like to remind the public to put cell phones away and concentrate on driving. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death in the province.

Also this weekend, OPP will be monitoring  the “Big 4” driving behaviours: impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt use.
