A 53-year-old Howick man is facing several charges after being stopped by Huron County OPP while riding a lawn tractor and refusing to provide a breath sample.
Police say an officer came across a lawn tractor northbound on Gorrie Line near Gorrie around 4 p.m. on Sunday and recognized the driver - who was prohibited from driving.
As the officer approached, the tractor allegedly veered off the road into a freshly plowed field, but the officer was able to catch up and order the man off the John Deere.
The odour of alcohol was reported, but the driver refused to provide a breath sample and was trasnported to the Huron OPP detachment.
Police say it turned out, Murray Thornton, in addition to being a disqualified driver, was also bound by court counditions not to consume alcohol.
As a result, Thornton has been charged with driving while disqualified, refusing to provide a breath sample and failing to comply with undertaking.
He was given an automatic 90-day licence suspension and the lawn tractor was impounded for 45 days.
Thornton is scheduled to appear in court in Goderich in June.
