A Newbury woman is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly hitting an OPP cruiser and officer.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, an officer was parked on the west side of Main Street, near McKellar Street in Glencoe, dealing with an individual in the back seat of the police vehicle.

Police say the officer was standing next to the rear driver’s side door when a red Chevrolet collided with the cruiser.

The officer jumped out of the way and was struck on the arm by the Chevrolet’s passenger side mirror.

Luckily, the officer did not require medical attention.

The Chevrolet failed to stop at the scene and fled west on McKellar Street, where it was stopped by police in a parking lot.

Police determined the female driver had been drinking.

She was arrested and taken to an OPP detachment for a breath test.

A 41-year-old Newbury resident has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol), driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, and fail to stop at scene of accident.

She was released from custody and will appear in a London court on May 3.
