Here's something to chew on -- getting your vitamins through chewing gum.

"This is for people who want a nutrition boost throughout their day," says Hamilton entrepreneur Brendan Koyer, the man behind VitaminGum.

While there are similar gums on the market, Koyer says there are features that make VitaminGum unique.

"Sugar free, aspartame free and it's infused with 12 different vitamins so every 2 pieces of VitaminGum contains 10% of your recommended daily value," says Koyer.

The gum appeared on the market last October after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, including Health Canada.

It's priced to sell around the cost of a premium gum.

There are certain people for whom vitamin supplements are recommended.

But dietician Chris Callaghan says a proper diet is still the best way to get your vitamins.

"When you're eating across the 4 food groups you're exposing yourself to a lot of different nutrients, vitamins and minerals plus macro-nutrients...so you're really getting the whole package when you're eating food," says Callaghan.

The gum is available in peppermint, spearmint and cinnamon.

Future plans include making more flavours.
