Three canoers were rescued from an island on the Saugeen River after their canoe capsized.

According to police two females and one male launched their canoe along Bruce Road 3 around 8 p.m. Tuesday and headed for Denny’s Dam.

Somewhere along the way their canoe capsized. The canoers were able to swim to a near buy island and call 9-1-1.

Around 10 p.m. Saugeen Shore Police, along with Fire Crews, EMS and OPP were dispatched and rescued the canoers from the island.

All three were observed by EMS but did not sustain any significant injuries.

The Paddlers were wearing their lifejackets and Police and Fire credit that with allowing the paddlers to make it to safety.
