A nine-year-old boy suffered only minor injuries after darting into traffic and being struck by a truck, and police say the driver's abilities get the credit.

Grey County OPP say the collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Garafraxa Street and Crawford Street in Chatsworth.

According to officials, the boy ran out from in front of a van parked on the east side to cross the street after seeing family members on the west side of the road.

A northbound commercial cube truck swerved to avoid hitting the youth, but the boy struck the front passenger side and was knocked to the ground.

However, he was able to get up, right away, on his own. The child was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

OPP are crediting the driver, a 49-year-old Owen Sound man, for his driving abilities and quick reaction time given the situation.
