Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a vehicle being sought by police crashed into a ditch near London.
About 2 a.m. Monday, along 12 Mile Road in Middlesex Centre, OPP attempted to stop a vehicle, but when the driver allegedly ignored police, officers gave chase.
"Officers were on patrol in Middlesex Centre and observed a vehicle and attempted to stop it," says Const. Liz Melvin.
"The vehicle failed to stop for police. It was discovered later it had crashed in the east ditch of Vanneck Road, near Gainsborough Road.
It’s unclear what caused the crash.
The 38-year-old male London driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate.
