A home in London’s Byron neighbourhood suffered extensive damage following a fire early Monday morning, and a second house was also damaged.
The fire broke out at 31 Robinwood Cres. around 1:30 a.m. Two people were inside at the time of the fire but were not injured.
Fire officials say working smoke alarms alerted the occupants to the blaze.
The home , located just around the corner from Boler Mountain, was extensively damaged and a neighbouring home sustained damage was well from exposure.
In a strange coincidence, the owners of the home next door, 33 Robinwood Cres., were scheduled to move in Monday.
Those plans have been scrapped, but Nick Comley says he's just glad it wasn't worse, "Firefighters were first to tell us everyone was okay, which is the most important thing."
For now the Comleys will stay with family, but repair work to the home has already begun, "We're great that way, we're very fortunate."
Two cars, a garage, and the upper floor of the home where the fire started were gutted by the blaze.
An early damage estimate is set at $200,000, but that number is expected to climb.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials say the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
