Elgin County is set to play host to a large scale multi agency search and rescue training event on Saturday.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is hosted by the London chapter of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA).

Agencies involved include the Department of National Defence, OPP, and the Central Elgin Fire Service. They will work together in multiple scenarios over land and water.

The public will be able to see low level search aircraft around the county as well as over Lake Erie.

Several of the scenarios will take place around the St. Thomas Airport and just east of the airport. There will be an increase in first responders in those areas.

One scenario will see search teams looking for a lost scout troop in a wooded area east of the airport. Another will include dealing with a mock plane crash which may produce visible smoke east of the airport.

There will also be mock scenarios on the lake involving military and police marine units.
