Members of the Rowbust Dragon Boat, brought together by breast cancer, are heading to Australia to defend their world title won in Italy in 2014.

The team left for Australia Saturday and will compete in Adelaide.

Before arriving in Adelaide, they will spend a week in Canberra training and to adjust to the time change.

The team lobbied to have a breast cancer competitive division added to the worlds.

The 2014 Club Crew World Championships in Ravenna, Italy was the first time that the International Dragon Boat Federation recognized the Breast Cancer Survivor Division.

Team members say the mild winter in Ontario allowed them to stay on Fanshawe Lake longer for training.

The team will be thinking of one of their members, Gail Hathaway, who lost her battle with cancer eight weeks after competing in Italy in 2014.

Gail was a proud member of Rowbust, one of our biggest, most enthusiastic cheerleaders and she will be in our hearts as we race down that course….” says Linda Kuska, the Rowbust captain.
