A driver has been charged after a collision with a cruiser on Highway 23 near Mitchell, Ont. around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Perth County OPP say an officer in a fully-marked cruiser was southbound on Highway 23 with lights and siren activated when the collision occurred.

As the cruiser approached Line 32, police say a westbound Dodge Ram pickup crossed the highway right in front of the cruiser, causing it to collide with the rear passenger-side corner of the pickup.

The cruiser was totalled while the pickup had minor damage.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured, while the OPP constable suffered minimal injuries and was treated in hospital and released.

Holly Loucas, 43, of Paris, has been charged with failing to yield to traffic on through highway.

The officer had been responding to a personal injury crash on Highway 23 south of Mitchell.
