A 19-year-old man faces manslaughter and other serious charges following an incident in Mount Forest.
Wellington County OPP confirm that the accused and victim were family members. The accused was the victim’s grandson. The circumstances of the incident have note been confirmed by police.
OPP say they were called to a residence in that community early Sunday morning.
Three people were taken to hospital as a result of some sort of dispute, police say, including the suspect.
Only one of those people, 79-year-old Joan Dinsmore, suffered series injuries. She died as a result of her injuries on Tuesday, two days after the incident.
Since then, 19-year-old Ryan Ives has been charged with manslaughter, assault causing bodily harm, threatening to cause death, assault and mischief, as well as six counts of assault in the weapon.
Brother shares his story
Dillan Dart says he was at home with his grandparents when one of his brothers, Ives, came home angry and started attacking anther brother, then choking his grandfather.
He says, “I grabbed him (and) ripped him off my grandpa...Things escalated. He grabbed a frying pan and threw it at my grandma.”
Dart remembers his grandmother as a kind woman who will be missed, “She was always caring – always had a smile on her face."
Neighbours also say Dinsmore was friendly and someone who would do anything for her grandchildren.
Ives remains in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled in May.
