A woman trying to park her van outside the Tein Bo Restaurant instead drove through the front window before she could bring it to a stop.

The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. as an elderly couple were arriving at the restaurant at 775 9th Avenue East for dinner.

Police say the 71-year-old driver was unable to stop until the Mazda van had smashed through the front window of the business.

A customer who was eating dinner escaped serious injury after jumping out of the way. She suffered minor injuries from flying glass and was treated at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle were not injured.

No estimate has been released on the damage but police say it could be several thousand dollars.

The investigation continues but the Owen Sound Police Service says charges are not expected.
