Police have charged the driver of a transport truck with impaired driving, following a head-on collision in Huron County on Tuesday.

According to OPP, the driver of a Honda Accord was attempting to make a right hand turn, from London Road onto Nature Centre Road, when a Pontiac Montana minivan slid into the Accord. The car was subsequently pushed into the path of an oncoming transport truck.

Officers say, the driver of the transport truck displayed signs of impairment. Upon completion of a breathalyzer test, officer determined the driver to be over the legal limit.

Police have charged 43-year-old George Poortinga of Central Huron, with impaired driving and driving a motor vehicle with over 80mgm of alcohol. Poortinga will appear in a Goderich court on Dec. 23 and received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension.

The 62-year-old driver of the Accord was transported to Wingham District Hospital with minor injuries. The 16-year-old driver of the minivan was uninjured.
