An investigation is underway after three dead dogs were found wrapped in plastic and left hanging from a guardrail in Elgin County.

All three off the dogs were found with gunshot wounds to their heads and faces.

Elgin County OPP say the dogs were found last Tuesday, Aug. 26 along Southwold Township Road and the Ontario SPCA is now investigating.

“The gunshot wounds were consistent with the dogs being confined while shot,” the Ontario SPCA said in a statement. “It also appeared that at least one of the dogs had been badly beaten.”

The dogs are described as female Labrador retriever-type dogs weighing about 50 pounds. Two were tan/red in colour and one was black.

The owners of the dogs have not been identified and there are currently no dogs that have been reported missing in the area that match the descriptions of those found.

Anyone who might have information about the the dogs or their owner is being asked to call the Ontario SPCA at 310-7722 from anywhere in Ontario or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
