TORONTO - Six unions say they're banding together to fight cuts to Ontario public servants.

The unions, which represent 57,000 civil servants, say they're joining forces because they don't want the government to pick them off one at a time.

The group includes AMAPCEO, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the Professional Engineers Government of Ontario.

They say the government is demanding "devastating cuts" to their members' health and retiree benefits, sick pay and future salaries.

They say it flies in the face of Premier Kathleen Wynne's recent comments that it would be a mistake to declare war on labour, as the Progressive Conservatives would do.

AMAPCEO, which represents 11,500 professional and supervisor employees, say negotiations are currently deadlocked and the two sides have agreed to go to mediation.
