Aylmer is getting a new long-term care home.

The province announced Wednesday it is constructing a new building to replace Terrace Lodge.

Parliamentary assistant to the health minister, John Fraser, was at Terrace Lodge, where 100 resident spaces will be redeveloped in the new home.

Among the enhancements will be more space for programs such as rehab and physiotherapy, more air conditioned areas, more spacious rooms with a maximum of two residents per bedroom and better wheelchair access.

The province also says this project is one of more than 300 long-term care facilities being redeveloped in the next nine years.

"Previous councils have invested in quality care for Elgin's residents when Bobier Villa and Elgin Manor were rebuilt in 1996 and 2003 respectively. This re-development will enhance the quality of life for residents of Terrace Lodge now and for many years to come. These funds from the province will assist us as we embark on this major infrastructural investment," says Elgin County Warden Bernie Wiehle.
