Preparations are under way across the country, including in London, as Canadians come together to watch the Tragically Hip perform their final concert of the Man Machine Poem tour.

The Hip are returning to Kingston, their hometown, for the final concert.

It will be livestreamed in many venues tonight, including Victoria Park in London.

City officials are organizing the park concert Saturday night and Tourism London has helped plan an evening of entertainment at the London Music Hall, culminating with the live concert, streaming on a big screen.

Several local arists will perform there beginning at 5 p.m.

“It’s a national celebration,” says Chris Campbell, Tourism London’s director of culture and entertainment. “This is an exciting day.”

It’s going to be an emotional night for many as they say good-bye to the iconic, quintessential Canadian band.

Lead singer Gord Downie is battling terminal brain cancer. But the Hip still went ahead with a 15-show tour which passed through much of the country. London's show was on Aug. 8 and it sold out within minutes.
