A sign of what's to come for the rest of southern Ontario made its presence felt north of London Friday.

Large parts of Midwestern Ontario were under a freezing rain warning and Mother Nature didn't disappoint. In several locations the roads were slushy and slippery and the sidewalks crunchy and slick.

A thin coating of ice covered mostly everything across parts of region, making getting around an unpleasant task.

“It's not really safe for travel you know, but it's Canada what are going to do,” says Daxesh Patel.

Today is considered one of the busiest travel days of the year, as people head off to family gatherings before the holidays.

Some decided it was best to stay at home.

"I'll probably stay home this weekend - not heading out," says Gordon Mitchell.

But others decided to push on.

"It's not that bad, really. Unless it gets really bad, I'll still do what I"ve got to do" says Steve Walker.
