Ontario farmers reported a record production of soybeans this year but outputs of corn for grain and winter wheat were lower.

Statistics Canada says soybean production in the province reached a record 3.8 million tonnes -- 17.1 per cent above last year's total.

The agency says the increased production was driven by a 17.9 per cent rise in harvested area, while yield was down slightly.

Production of corn for grain was down almost 16 per cent from 2013's record level of nine million tonnes while winter wheat production was down nearly 29 per cent, falling to 1.6 million tonnes.
