Huron County OPP say a joint marijuana eradication project has led to the destruction of more than 2,800 marijuana plants at 14 illegal grow sites in the area.
Provincial police, RCMP, Canadian Forces, West Grey police and Saugeen Shores police were involved in the sharing of information that led to the seizures the week of Aug. 18.
Harvesting of marijuana plants typically happens from late August until early October and the crops are often located in swamps, corn fields, wooded areas, along rivers and on rural properties with large acreage.
If anyone comes across an illegal outdoor grow op, OPP ask that they contact police, not touch the plants due to chemical residue, leave the area immediately if confronted and record particulars about vehicles and location if possible.
According to police, outdoor grow ops can be protected by booby traps, so for safety it is important to stay away from the area and leave the way to entered.
