The Stratford Festival is extending its season, offering an extra week of five productions in the fall.

The runs of King Lear, Crazy for You  King John, Mother Courage and Her Children and Antony and Cleopatra were all extended, in a sign the festival continues on its upward attendance swing.

“The response to the 2014 season has been extraordinary," says Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino.

“It is very rewarding to see such strong demand for our Shakespeare offerings, alongside the work of Brecht and the Gershwins, proof that our audiences are actively seeking a full range of theatrical experiences."

The festival will now run until Oct. 19.

In 2013, the festival posted a surplus of $1.4 million, a year after it had a deficit of $3.5 million.

It also saw an increase in attendance last season of 50,000.
