London police have arrested a 25-year-old man after a robbery at the Rexall Pharma Plus on Adelaide Street North.
Police say the man robbed the store at Adelaide Street North and Fanshawe Park Road East just before 9 a.m. Friday.
London police Const. Ken Steeves says, "The suspect went into the pharmacy, demanded medication, he was provided drugs, at which point he fled the pharmacy and hopped into the stolen vehicle."
As he fled the scene he reportedly struck the pharmacist, who had followed him out of the store, and dragged him a short distance. The pharmacist was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the suspect then headed west on Fanshawe Park Road before crossing into the eastbound lanes, hitting an oncoming vehicle near Stoneybrook Cres. and then hitting a tree and fleeing on foot.
He was located after allegedly breaking in to a garage on Cumberland Crescent and arrested, and police are crediting citizens for their help.
"This is a prime example, again, of where we encourage people to report suspicious activity. Due to the combined efforts of citizens as well as police he was arrested quite quickly," Steeves says.
There are reports the vehicle he was driving had been stolen aroudn 9 a.m., just minutes before the robbery, from Phillbrook Drive after it was left idling in a driveway.
