London police has released identity of the victim in a fatal weekend collision in the city’s south side.

Police say Jacob Rempel. 48, of Aylmer succumbed to his injuries after a northbound car crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound SUV.

It happened at the intersection of Highbury Avenue South at Glanworth Drive Saturday night.

Rempel was the passenger in the car. The female driver remains in critical, but stable condition at the London Health Sciences Centre.

A dog that was inside the northbound car has also died.

Two other people were transported to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but police say alcohol and speed are not contributing factors.
