A major house fire in west London has caused $1 million in damage.

Shortly after 4:30 Saturday afternoon, fire crews were called to the home on Hartson Place, near Hyde Park Road and Riverside Drive.

Electrical wires were found on fire inside a utility room, crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was thought to be put out but when firefighters went back inside the home, flames suddenly broke through the roof of the garage.

The fire swept through the attic and garage and moved to the second floor.

Three firefighters inside the house had to be evacuated.

Luckily, nobody was hurt.

The occupants of the home are staying with neighbours.

It's believed the home was undergoing renovations at the time.

The investigation continues.
