An investigation is underway into what caused a barn near Strathroy to go up in flames Sunday evening.

The fire occurred on a property along Pike Road between Mullifarry Dr. and Napperton Rd.

An oxygen tank in the barn exploded and blew out of the back wall.

Adelaide Metcalfe fire chief Arend Noordhof tells CTV News that it was lucky that none of the 35 firefighters on the ground were struck by the tank.

It took about four hours to extinguish the blaze.

The barn was a total loss with damage estimated at about $350,000.
