Fire damage was pegged at upwards of $750,000 after an early-morning blaze ripped through a Perth County garage in Mitchell on Friday.

Two pickup trucks and a snowplow truck were damaged. It is believed the fire started in the snowplow.

One firefighter was treated for a hand injury and released from hospital after being struck by a hose, says Perth fire chief William Hunter.

He says an automatic alarm alerted fire crews, who responded just after 1:30 a.m. The West Perth department out of Mitchell battled the blaze, with help from Sebringville firefighters, until 4 a.m.

Hunter says the roof of the building has extensive damage. The municipality’s vehicles will be parked in other garages at this time.
