Following a collision in Lucan local NHL star Ryan O’Reilly has been charged by Middlesex OPP for impaired driving.

The 24-year-old O’Reilly grew up in Varna and played with the Colorado Avalanche before signing a major contract extension with the Buffalo Sabres. It's a seven-year, $52.5-million deal.

In a news release, Middlesex OPP say a green Chevrolet pickup truck ran into the Tim Hortons on Richmond Street in Lucan around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Plywood now covers the window that was broken in the collision. Police say the truck then left the scene via Saintsbury Line before being found parked on Harold Court a couple blocks away. Police say they found the person they believe was the driver, walking on Main Street.

After catching up with the suspects on foot, police suspected the driver had been drinking.

O’Reilly was charged with impaired driving as well as failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

"What's frustrating is just a week ago we had an impaired driving death. This is another impaired driver that could have caused death. Fortunately it didn't result in death or injury to anyone, but its one of four causal factors of injury and death on our roads and we want to put an end to it," says West Region OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor.

The Sabres said in a statement on Twitter that they are aware of the reports and are withholding further comment until speaking with all parties involved.

In 2014, O’Reilly won the Lady Byng Trophy which is awarded to the player than demonstrates a high level of sportsmanship and great playing ability.

O'Reilly is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 20.
