Workers at a Sarnia chemical plant have been rescued after an electrical failure trapped them inside an elevator.

Emergency crews were called to Imperial Oil early Monday morning for a report of a fire at the facility. Arriving crews were informed that seven workers were trapped within an elevator, near the second floor of an operating unit since 9:15 a.m.

After nearly two hours, the workers were freed – no injuries are reported.

Imperial is now investigating the cause of the electrical failure.
