Batten down the hatches. Environment Canada has issued a wind warning and a special weather statement for London and several surrounding counties.

According to the weather authority, a deep low over northeastern Ontario is bringing strong winds and a cold front to the southern part of the province. This system is expected to develop wind speeds ranging between 60 km/h and 100 km/h in some areas.

As such, Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Brant County, Bruce County, Elgin County, Grey County, Huron County, London-Middlesex, Oxford County and Perth County.

At the same time, a special weather statement has been issued for those communities.

The statement warns about the potential for thunderstorm and 25 millimetres of rainfall in some areas.The mild temperatures the region is currently seeing are not expected to linger too long. Environment Canada is forecasting a quick return to winter-life weather, as temperatures dip below freezing. Flurries may also develop overnight.
