Two west London neighbourhoods have seen thefts from vehicles nearly quadruple over the same period in 2014.

Police say there have been 23 reported incidents in the Hunt Club and Hazelden areas from September to November 2015, compared to just six for the same period in 2014.

While they are occurring every day of the week, the incidents are concentrated in the Thursday to Sunday period between midnight and 5 a.m.

Unlocked vehicles were the primary targets, with items like GPS devices, coins, business cards, identification and tools taken.

According to investigators, suspects are believed to be using the Sifton Bog trails to commute between the two neighbourhoods.

In addition, police say the thefts have been under-reported, as they have been recovering property for which no report was ever filed.

Area residents are encouraged to report these incidents so police can get a full view of the problem and target resources efficiently.

Police are also asking people to be vigilant, report suspicious persons immediately, remove valuables from their vehicles and lock car doors.
