A man is facing charges after an off duty Sarnia police officer was threatened with a machete, police say.

The incident happened Monday morning when the officer noticed a male acting suspiciously on Rosedale Avenue.

The officer called to have an on duty officer attend and confronted the suspect.

At that point, a second male appeared and pulled out a machete and threatened to “cut” the officer, police said.

As cruisers were arriving the second suspect, a 44-year-old, left on a bike but was apprehended.

He is charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and assault with a weapon.

The first suspect, a 27-year-old, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and breaching probation.
