LONDON, Ont. - London, Ont., police say they stopped nearly 1,000 vehicles during RIDE checks on Super Bowl Sunday but did not issue a single licence suspension.

Sgt. Ryan Scrivens says it looks like people got the message about planning ahead and making arrangements so they didn't end up driving after drinking.

Officers were stopping vehicles throughout the city at different times during Sunday to make sure impaired drivers were kept off the roads.

Scrivens says last year had similar results.

But in previous years, he says there were usually several people arrested for impaired driving.

And despite Sunday's results, he says London drivers still have room for improvement, since overall cases of impaired driving were up 14 per cent in 2013 compared to 2012.
