A lockdown was lifted at the London Regional Cancer Clinic at the London Health Sciences Centre Tuesday night after a report that a man was seen inside carrying a long gun.
London police say further investigation later revealed the subject was only seen outside of the building. After clearing the Regional Cancer Centre, the entire campus was given the “all clear” and staff, patients and visitors were allowed unrestricted access to LHSC.
Police received the call about a suspicious person shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday and placed the clinic on lockdown.
Both patients and staff were reportedly escorted from the clinic, which is located at the west end of the Victoria Campus at Commissioners Road and Wellington Road.
Early Tuesday evening, @LHSCCanada Tweeted that due to the ongoing search for a suspicious person, access to Victoria Hospital was being restricted to the emergency department entrance only.
Appointments through the afternoon were cancelled and the hospital was asking visitors not to go to Victoria Hospital unless it was absolutely necessary.
The investigation will continue in relation to the report of a subject carrying a rifle. Anyone with information about this incident can contact the London police at 519-661-5670 or CrimeStoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
