The London fire department is warning a Vancouver Street neighbourhood to be vigilant, following a suspicious fire Sunday.

Officials say combustible material was used to start the fire in a detached garage. Firefighters were called to the scene over the noon hour and the garage was fully engulfed when they arrived. The damage is estimated at $50,000 to $60,000.

Officials are advising area residents to lock up any flammable material and stay watchful.

“You never know if this is a one-off or the beginning of a trend,” says fire inspector Frank Galera.

Galera says the Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene Sunday and London police have now taken over the investigation.

“The scene has been released back to the owner,” he says.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
