It was a celebration of multiculturalism at a London high school, but the reported presence of flags from a terrorist organization stunned some.

Last Thursday, at London Central secondary school's cultural assembly, it was claimed Tamil Tigers flags were seen.

A student, who did not want to be identified, and others were troubled by the flags.

The Tigers, who formed in 1996 to create an independent state in Sri Lanka, are deemed terrorists by the Canadian and U.S. governments.

The parent of a student at the school was alarmed.

But Jim Robertson, Central's principal, looked into the incident and said the flags used at the assembly were different Tamil flags and not the Tigers. He said the flag had been used at other London events.

Robertson said cultural day is held to allow students to celebrate their heritage. Students wear T-shirts and bring flags and other symbols to celebrate multiculturalism.
