Construction on a new roundabout at Sunningdale Road and Wonderland Road North is set to begin Monday.

The multi-lane roundabout is expected to open this fall, but in the meantime drivers can expect some delays ans slow speeds in the construction zone.

Partial and full intersection closures are anticipated during construction, and motorists can check the city's website for updates at: http://www.london.ca/construction

In a statement, Edward Soldo, director of Roads and Transportation, said, "We are very cognizant of the need to build for future volumes and users...This new roundabout will help move traffic volumes more expeditiously, while adding increased safety for active transportation users like cyclists and pedestrians."

The roundabout will include features like:

  • approaches widened to two lanes in each direction
  • bike lanes, sidewalks and street lighting
  • upgrades to underground infrastructure including storm and sanitary sewer installations
  • landscaping in the central island and splitter islands
