Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is now involved after an incident southeast of Aylmer on Monday night in which a man was injured during his arrest.

Elgin County OPP were called to an altercation on Sawmill Road in Malahide Township shortly before midnight on Monday.

Investigators say a 50-year-old male allegedly attended the home and physically assaulted an occupant, caused property damage and started a small fire.

Once officers arrived, he reportedly refused to comply, and as a result was injured during the arrest.

He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

An investigation is now underway by the SIU as well as the OPP’s Elgin County Crime Unit.

Provincial police say criminal charges against the man are pending.
