Not only are drivers not listening to OPP messages about safe winter driving, some are also endangering the lives of others by speeding, police say.

OPP in southwestern Ontario responded to 248 crashes Monday due to slippery conditions and this past weekend, they laid stunt driving charges in three separate incidents over less than two hours.

Chatham-Kent OPP say while conducting radar enforcement Saturday afternoon, officers clocked a Mazda car at 164 km/h on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road.

Shorly after that incident, police spotted a Chevrolet SUV travelling westbound near Harwich Road registered at a  speed of 156 km/h.

Then around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, near Communications Road, a Lexus car was travelling at 173 km/h.

In each instance, the driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Police say that fortunately there have been no serious injuries or fatalities so far on Monday, but say emergency services have been extremely busy.

Charges were also laid against three drivers taking photos of a crash scene on Highway 403 while driving.
