Middlesex County OPP have reopened Highway 402 after several vehicles ended up in the ditch, as more weather warnings are put in place for the London area.
OPP officers responded to two vehicles in the center median of the highway at Kerwood Road around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
One of the vehicles involved was a tractor trailer, the other a pickup truck with a trailer. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police also reported a third vehicle in the ditch on Highway 402 at Glendon Drive just a few minutes later. Emergency crews attended the scene.
Police closed Highway 402 between Kerwood and Centre Road for just over an hour.
On Wednesday afternoon a pickup truck rolled into the ditch on the westbound Highway 402 at Hickory Drive. The driver was transported to hospital with unspecified injuries.
OPP are reminding the public to be extra cautious while driving in winter conditions, they are reporting instances of heavy, blowing snow and numerous locations with black ice.
Warnings in place for region
Just as City of London crews finish digging out from a weekend storm, more snow squall warnings have been issued by Environment Canada.
Included in the warning are:
- Watford - Pinery Park - eastern Lambton County
- Elgin
- London - Middlesex
- Goderich - Bluewater - southern Huron County
- Hanover - Dundalk - southern Grey County
- Owen Wound - Blue Mountains - northern Grey County
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
Environment Canada says a northwesterly flow of fresh cold arctic air moving into Lake Huron and Georgian Bay has generated multiple lake-effect snow bands.
They are expected to be narrow, but intense and to get stronger through the afternoon continuing into Wednesday evening and overnight before they start to weaken and drift east.
Some areas could see 15 to 25 centimetres from bands off Lake Huron.
However single, strong band expcted to hit between London and Watford to Elgin County could remain stationary into the night and bring more than 30 centimetres of show.
There is also potential for this snow squall to shift farther east Wednesday evening and to affect the London as well.
Snow squalls off Georgian Bay are expected to be weaker due to the lower water and air temperature contrast and unfavourable wind direction, with local snow accumulations in the 10 to 20 centimetre.
Environment Canada reminds drivers conditions could deteriorate quickly they should be prepared for conditions with near zero visibility, blowing snow and quick accumulation on untreated roads.
