Medical marijuana facility coming to midwestern Ontario

A medical marijuana facility in Hanover will create 15 to 20 jobs as soon as it’s up and running, the company operating the plant says.
Alternative Medical Solutions held a press conference Monday to outline its plan for the 3.7-acre site in the Hanover Business Park.
The Hamilton-based company hopes to begin construction of its building next month, with the plant a going concern by spring 2015.
What could delay that timetable is the approval of its Health Canada permit for the facility – although officials say they hope to have that in place by June.
“It’s a product that is needed,” Steven Barber, the company’s director, said Monday.
Hanover’s mayor welcomed the news as well, saying it would bring jobs to the town.
“This is a new industry,” said Kathi Maskell.
“It’s unique … and we’re happy to partner with AMS. We believe that they’re open and trustworthy, easy to work with.”
Alternative Medical Solutions isn’t the only company looking to grow medicinal marijuana in midwestern Ontario – another company is eyeing Wingham as a possible home and plans to meet with township councillors Monday night.
