The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a safety bulletin after a significant amount of rainfall in the region.

Over the past 24 hours, the Thames River watershed has received about 40 to 60 millimetres of rain.

The watershed was relatively dry at the start of the precipitation , but the ground has now absorbed all the rainfall it can and the region's smaller watercourses are running high.

The authority will begin operating the Indian/McGregor Creek Diversion Channel to protect the south end of Chatham.

Standing water in and on roadways in the rural and urban areas should not be assumed to be safe to drive through. LTVCA advises extra precaution should be taken in passing through those areas.
