One of the largest crowds ever gathered for London's Remembrance Day ceremony held at the cenotaph in Victoria Park on Tuesday.

The parade of veterans, Canadian Forces, police, firefighters, and cadets began at the Delta Armouries marching west on Dundas St. to Wellington St., then north to cenotaph.

London police had stepped up security around the cenotaph and placed spotters on roofs, but there were no incidents.

The heightened security and elevated threat level comes weeks after Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was gunned down at the National War Memorial in Ottawa and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent was killed in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.

After the ceremonies, the Remember November 11th Association hosted a public reception at Centennial Hall with all welcome.

Around London, veterans, their families, and friends also gathered at Royal Canadian Legion branches for a time of comradeship and remembrance.

In Wingham, several hundred people - the largest crowd in 10 years - gathered to mark Remembrance Day.

Among them were Lincoln and Laurie Dinning, who laid a wreath in honour of their son Cpl. Matthew Dinning, who was killed in Afghanistan in April 2006.

It was also an especially poignant day in Cirillo's hometown of Hamilton, Ont. where hundreds gathered at a downtown square.

Elsewhere across the province there was record turnout for Remembrance Day ceremonies.
