Ward 4 Councillor Stephen Orser has filed a complaint against London Mayor Joni Baechler, alleging she has unethically endorsed two candidates.
Orser - who is running for re-election - has reportedly put his concerns in writing and filed them with the city clerk, saying that endorsing a candidate violates council's Code of Conduct.
"I feel this endorsement is toxic in nature the way it's been rolled out...This Code of Conduct applies to all of us, and I haven't seen councillors giving endorsements," he says.
It appeared Baechler had thrown her support behind Ward 14 candidate Jared Zaifman and Ward 5 candidate Maureen Cassidy after press releases sent out on behalf of those candidates contained kind quotes from the mayor.
But the quotes in their campaign literature were made when Baechler was a councillor, long before the election campaign began.
And Baechler says while she hasn't officially endorsed anyone, even if she did, she has a right to speak her mind when it comes to political issues and so does Orser.
"I haven't come out and said 'These are the people I clearly endorse.'"
She also points to Orser's appearance at recent press conference where mayoral candidate Joe Swan had his campaign signs on full display.
But Orser says having signs on his lawn are not endorsements.
