The St. Thomas Armoury is getting an upgrade with a $1.2 million grant announced Thursday.
The project is intended to create jobs and help support the local economy in St. Thomas.
The improvements will include boiler, pipe and radiator replacement, heating, ventilation and plumping upgrades, as well as emergency lighting replacement.
Work will begin this summer and is expected to take two years.
"The Canadian Armed Forces are a great source of pride for the people of St. Thomas, especially the service of The Elgin's and the Cadets, who call the St. Thomas Armoury home," says Elgin-Middlesex-London MP Joe Preson.
In all, the Harper government has announced $135 million for defence department projects and anticipates the creation of 10,000 jobs.
