The Vancouver Whitecaps are coming to London.

The professional soccer club has chosen the Forest City as it’s first academy centre in Eastern Canada.

The Elgin Middlesex Soccer Association (EMSA) has partnered with the organization in the creation of the Whitecaps FC London Youth Academy, as first reported by CTV News.

The annoucement came in a media conference Thursday in London.

The North London soccer club has signed over the playing rights for its elite youth teams, but players from other clubs could sign on.

“The EMSA share our vision for soccer development in Canada. Together we look forward to providing new opportunities for local players,” says Whitecaps director of soccer development, Dan Lenarduzzi.

Programs will include a Prospects Academy for boys and girls from under-11 to under-18.

As well, the youth academy members will be provided with opportunities to be scouted into the Whitecaps full-time professional development programs in Vancouver.

Regional support staff and a head coach from the Whitecaps will be placed in London.

“Our board is very excited about the opportunities this partnership will provide for our players, coaches, referees and administrators, says EMSA president John Dutot.
