Environment Canada issued a severe weather bulletin for parts of Huron, Grey and Bruce Counties on Monday with local snow squalls possible Monday night and into Tuesday.

Lake effect flurries and local snow squalls are expected to develop over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay as winds shift to a southwest flow and will affect regions primarily near Goderich north to the Bruce Peninsula.

The squalls are expected to shift once more on Tuesday as the winds become northwesterly once again, affecting areas from the Bruce Peninsula to Barrie and Midland.

Regions under the watch may be affected if the snow squalls intensify or as the squall orientation shifts Monday afternoon.

Snowfall amounts of up to 15 centimetres or more are likely under the most intense snow squalls along with near zero visibilities and motorists travelling into the regions should be prepared for sudden reductions to visibility and accumulating snow on untreated roads.

A snow squall watch remains in effect for:

  • Goderich - Bluewater - southern Huron County
  • Wingham - Blyth - northern Huron County
  • Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - southern Bruce County
  • Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory
  • Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - northern Grey County
  • Barrie - Orillia - Midland

Watches in effect for Perth County ended on Monday afternoon.
