The late mayor of Central Elgin was honoured Friday by her collegues and the municipality.

Plans were unvieled for a new green space in Port Stanley, to be named Hofhuis Park in honour of the years of service dedicated by former mayor Sylvia Hofhuis. She died in 2010.

Hofhuis had always supported the vision to re-develop the Port Stanley harbour and waterfront.

The project is expected to take three years to complete, but the park is just part of a larger revitilization of the waterfront area.

"To be able to re-open the pier. To be able to build a boat ramp and to be able to build a six and a half acre park to tie into the pier so that we can have quite an enjoyment and quite a tourist attraction for the community, is indeed a great opportunity,” says Central Elgin Mayor Bill Walters.
