As people hit the roads this weekend, a warning from police about counterfeit money being circulated in Grey County and the Bruce Peninsula.

OPP say they’re investigating several incidents of counterfeit American currency used in these areas.

On Tuesday, the owner of Springmount Esso Gas Bar on Hwy. 6 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs reported that two unknown males had purchased some small items from the store using American $20 and $50 bills. The bills, bearing serial numbers MB00494845C and MB00494846C, turned out to be counterfeit.

The two male suspects were described as non-white, both having short black beards.

One male was wearing a white t-shirt with a Native American headdress picture on it, white shorts, brown sandals and a white fedora style hat with a black band. They were last seen leaving in a new, black Jeep heading northbound on Hwy. 6 toward Wiarton.

Bruce Peninsula OPP received similar reports of counterfeit U.S. $20 and $50 bills being used at several businesses in Hepworth and Sauble Beach.

While OPP located the suspect vehicle, a 2016 Jeep Wrangler that was a rental car from Toronto, on the main street in Sauble Beach, they are still searching for the suspects.

Police continue to investigate these crimes and ask anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122.
